Bicycle workshop and shop

A workshop that fixes the bike you own rather than selling you the next one

Two workshops, eleven mechanics, and a rule that a repair is quoted before it is started — every time, no exceptions.

The work list

What the workshop does, and what it costs

Six jobs the workshop takes in most weeks, with the price, who it is open to and the current turnaround. The assistant quotes from this list rather than guessing.

Full service

Strip, clean, re-grease every bearing, new cables and chain where needed, wheels trued, everything adjusted and a road test before you get it back.

BC-SVCAll customers

4 to 6 working days; 2 on the Ride plan

Safety tune

Brakes, gears, tyres, bolts and wheel trueness checked and adjusted, with a written list of anything that will need doing in the next three months.

BC-TUNAll customers

Same day if dropped before 10:00

Wheel building

A wheel built by hand and tensioned properly, on your hub or ours, with the tension chart handed over with the wheel.

BC-WHLAll customers

5 working days, or 10 when a rim has to come in

E-bike service

Motor and battery diagnostics, firmware, and the mechanical service underneath — which is where most e-bike problems actually live.

BC-EBIAll customers

5 working days; battery diagnostics same day

Older frame restoration

Bringing a steel or aluminium frame from the eighties or nineties back into use: bearings, thread chasing, a modern drivetrain that suits the spacing.

BC-RESAll customers

Quoted per bike; typically 3 weeks

Bike fit

Ninety minutes with a mechanic and a measuring jig, adjusting the bike you already own before suggesting any part that costs money.

BC-FITAll customers

Three things worth asking

Each one opens the assistant with the question already sent — you only wait for the reply.

What does a full service cost, and how long would I be without the bike?

Answered from the published work list through list_services, with the current turnaround rather than a guess.

My rear wheel is buckled and I need the bike back by Saturday — can you take it?

Opens the booking form as a card in the chat with what the conversation already knows filled in.

Is BC-7742 ready yet?

Asks which email it was booked under, then reads the job back. Signed in, it goes straight to yours.

The desk

In the workshop now

Live jobs with their reference, state and what happens next. Look one up with its reference and the email it was booked under, or sign in and see your own.

BC-7742in progress

Rear wheel buckled on a 2014 steel tourer, 32 spokes, wanted back before Saturday

Rim is beyond truing — two spokes pulled through. A replacement rim in the same drilling arrives Thursday and the build goes on the bench that afternoon.

BC-7719resolved

Annual service on the commuter before winter

Serviced, new chain and cassette, bottom bracket re-greased rather than replaced — it had years left in it.

BC-7758open

Motor cutting out on hills after about twenty minutes

Sounds like a battery contact rather than the motor; diagnostics are same-day once it's in.

Signed in as the demo customer, the assistant reads these back through my_tickets. Signed out, it asks for a ticket number and the email it belongs to.

Open a ticket

Say what is wrong and how urgent it is — the desk picks it up from there. The assistant can open this same form for you — that is what open_desk_form does.

What is real here, and what is not

Blackthorn Cycles is a business invented for this page. Read this before you believe anything else on it.

Genuinely running

  • The assistant on this page is a live Busymate AI assistant, grounded in this site's own published pages.
  • The work list, the plans and the jobs come from this demo's own MCP server — real tool calls, not pasted text.
  • The page registers its own actions over WebMCP, so an agent can highlight a job type or open the booking form.
  • Signing in as the demo customer is a real identity hand-off: the assistant receives a name and an email address it never asked for.

Seeded, not connected

  • There is no Help Scout mailbox behind this page. Nothing booked here becomes a Help Scout conversation, or a record in any other shared inbox.
  • Blackthorn Cycles is an invented shop. The workshops, prices, mechanics, customers and jobs are fixtures written for this demo.
  • Jobs booked here live in memory until this demo restarts. No bench space is held and nobody is called.

The Help Scout connection is on the roadmap, not in production — this page shows the assistant half of it working against seeded jobs so you can judge the experience before the connector exists.

Put this on your own site

The same counter, on your own site and your own inbox

The same assistant, the same page actions, the same identified sign-in — on your Help Scout setup instead of this one.

  1. Point the assistant at your site so your work list, prices and turnarounds become the answers it gives, as published content rather than a re-typed copy.
  2. Expose the job book as a small MCP server: a lookup by reference and email, and a read that only ever answers for the signed-in person.
  3. Give the booking tool an action card so a customer describes the bike once, in a form, rather than over six messages.
  4. Wire the identity hand-off so a returning customer is recognised and their own jobs answer without them typing an address.
  5. Register the page's actions over WebMCP so the assistant can bring the right job type into view while it quotes it.

How to integrate Help Scout

Frequently asked

The assistant answers from these same words — ask it any of them and compare.

Will you work on an old bike, or just sell me a new one?

We will work on it. About a third of what comes through the door is older than the mechanic working on it. The only time we say no is when a frame is cracked or a fork is bent, and then we say so plainly rather than quoting around it.

Do you quote before starting?

Always, and it is the one rule the shop does not bend. A job is looked at, quoted, and only started once you have said yes. If something else is found halfway through, the bike stops and you get a call before another cent is spent.

How long does a wheel build actually take?

Five working days if the rim is in stock, ten if it has to come in. The build itself is a couple of hours; the rest is letting the tension settle and re-checking it, which is the part that decides whether the wheel is still true next spring.

Is a workshop plan cheaper than paying as you go?

Commute pays for itself if you get more than two tunes a year, which most daily riders do. Ride is worth it the moment you use the full service. Workshop only makes sense with three or more bikes — with one, Ride is the honest answer.
